Situated on the banks of the beautiful Loch Awe, Scotland. Portsonachan Hotel is steeped in history, a coaching Inn for several hundred years. The Inn was situated at the only crossing point on Loch Awe. Up until the 1940's, when the ferry was retired, it crossed the river by a rope. For more than 600 years this was part of the Scottish landscape. Portsonachan Hotel is a 1.5 hour drive from Glasgow, a 2.5 hour drive from Edinburgh and a 1 hour drive from Oban, 'Gateway to the Isles'.

When you want a relaxing vacation in Scotland, how about sailing up or down the 3rd longest loch in Scotland or just enjoy a stunning walk through local forest?

Portsonachan has it all. Our conservatory offers a truly spectacular view of the east side and northern end of the loch. From the conservatory you can see Ben Cruchan, also called the Hollow Mountain, due to the hydro electric dam. The dam is located halfway up the mountain and we recommend that guests take a closer look at this marvel of engineering.

The Captains Bar

The hotel has a bar, which is well stocked and available to residents and non residents. The staff are friendly and will keep you entertained for hours with their local legends and myths. The 'Captain's Bar' has over 30 Highland whiskies and drinks to suit all tastes. You can also have an aperitif whilst choosing your meal from the bar menu.

A great place to settle down in after a days fishing on Loch Awe or biking on the forest drive. The warm atmosphere makes Portsonachan Hotel the only place you will want to settle down in for an evening.

Guest Lounge

The guest lounge is traditional Scotland. Comfortable and a cosy area where you can browse through our library on a dark autumn evening or sit and play cards, board games or chess with your family and friends. Even if you just want to sit and have quiet time after your meal with a small tot of Scottish Malt Whisky in front of the fire.
